When I see photographs the likes of Robert Doisneau’s “Le Baiser de l’Hotel de Ville, Paris, 1950”, I can’t help but think how true that saying about a picture being worth a thousand words really is. Doisneau was a great French reportage photographer, best known for shooting subjects as he found them, without any direction on his part, “sur le vif”. Although he was forced to admit that this particular scene was staged, he nonetheless once wrote: "The marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street." Do as I say and not as I do? Bien sur Monsieur Doisneau.
In other words: I need a new camera.
