Last Saturday, Los Angeles' Martha Otero Gallery held an opening reception for their latest exhibition: "Rebus" by L.A.-based artist James Jean.
The subject matter is a fictionalized subconscious representation of deities in an apocalyptic decaying romanticized setting. Jean’s visual symbolism is composed of an amalgamation of lyrically gestural, expressionistic, energetic, abstracted forms from highly detailed images to freely inscribed graffiti.

When asked who my favorite artist is, I say James Jean as if it were a kinetic reflex of some sort. I intend on starting a collection of my own eventually, circumstances permitting. Till then I will simply gawk at the following and hope to make it down there before the exhibition ends.
