Montreal Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2010

The ladies at LYF asked me to be their date for Montreal’s Fashion Week and take some photos for the site. I was only able to make it to yesterday’s three shows and although today is the last day, I think I’ll pass… My eyes need serious recovery. I didn’t even make it to the after party.

One thing I never realized about fashion shows up until now is just how IMPORTANT it is to have GOOD MODELS. If they don’t know how to walk or if they sport ridiculous facial expressions, your work will look like a joke.

Another thing I noticed: people will give anything a standing ovation these days.

Annie 50

The name says it all - 50’s inspired.
Love the decade; the collection however looks like something Myco Anna would have done if she decided to tone her line down a few notches, bringing it to a more conservative level. I have to remind myself we are in Quebec and people here love that stuff.

Katrin Leblond

If I had a New Yorker as my date for the night I would have blushed and simply told him that in Quebec “Fashion Week” is synonymous for “circus”.
Remember that thing I said earlier about the importance of good models? This is the kind of joke I had in mind. As for the actual collection - Myco Anna goes 'high fashion'.

There is hope…

Barilà

A couple of weeks back, the LYF ladies interviewed Sabrina Barila, so when it was time for her show, Isadora reassured me that it was going to be good – fingers crossed.

And it was! The models were great - loved the aggressive strut and attitude (not too over the top); the styling worked for the rocker look they were going for (a little reminiscent of Edward Scissorhands) and the hint of Jack White in the soundtrack fit perfectly. I was pleased, especially since in 'the pit' things were starting to get ugly. Right before the show, I got into a fight with a very rude photographer and if it wasn't for the security guards and the two thousand dollar camera hanging from my neck I wouldn't have remained as composed as I was. Taking photos with him breathing down my neck the whole time afterwards was seriously aggravating.

Side note: I want the sequined blazer.

Big thanks to Isadora and Olivia for showing me a good time - you guys are wonderful!
