Out With the Old

For the past 19 years the Yves Laroche Galerie d’art has been providing contemporary art lovers with avant-garde pieces from home and abroad within the heart of Old Montreal.

Last night was the much-anticipated grand opening of its new location on the coveted St-Laurent Boulevard (6355 St-Laurent). This new space could probably contain the old one about three times, yet it lacks the unique cachet specific to the former spot that was actually once upon a time an old stable. It is also situated a bit outside of Montreal’s ‘happening’ perimeter.

That being said, the new industrial-looking space allows Mr. Yves Laroche to showcase a lot more art in a less cluttered environment, thus permitting a better appreciation of each piece. The reclusiveness of the location turns the gallery into a destination spot and less of a tourist loitering hole.

When looking at the big picture, this was definitely a smart move.

The night was a great success, displaying Daniel Martin Diaz’s first Canadian solo exhibition "Sacred Machine" along with " Looking" East a multi disciplinary group exhibition by guest curator Justin Giarla.
